Attendance Reminders

Hello Early Childhood Families,

As part of the Batavia Public School District, the EC Program is held to the same standards as our K-12 students, which are set forth by the Illinois School Code, which states that parents will be notified if their student is missing more than 5% (9 days) of the previous 180 school days.  This is about 2-3 days per trimester as EC students attend less days since they do not attend on Fridays. (District Priority 2: Foster Inclusion and Belonging)

Attendance in Early Childhood is always a tricky thing because for many students it is their first experience with a large group of others and they frequently catch a variety of illnesses.  One of the best preventatives of catching germs is participating in frequent and correct handwashing.  Here is a fun video that show the proper way to wash hands to ensure that everyone is teaching hand washing the correct way to minimize the student’s getting ill.  We will be showing the same video in our classrooms to help provide consistent messaging between home and school.  Wetting hands prior to adding the soap is an essential step for helping the soap activate to kill any germs that are on their hands.

Research shows that there is a direct relationship between regular attendance patterns and school success-starting as early as preschool.  It is very important that students arrive on time and stay for the entire session as there is no substitution for actual classroom instruction If your student’s attendance patterns fall outside of the acceptable range, you will be receiving a letter from me informing you of your child’s attendance patterns.  You can check your student’s attendance at any time by logging into their PowerSchool.

In order to work together to ensure that your student attends school as much as possible.  We shared with you our district calendar to help you plan for appointments and family events in the hopes minimizing school absences for your student as vacations requiring a student to miss school are highly discouraged.

We understand that students do get sick and that there are times when they need to stay home.  Here is a letter from the school nurse to help you determine when your student is too ill to attend school.

As always if you have any questions or concerns, please email me or give me a call.  We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that that our students maintain excellent attendance throughout the year and minimize absences to help ensure a successful academic year for all students.

Here is to a wonderful and successful school year!
