Dear Families,

Oh My!  It was chilly this week.  I wanted to remind you that the EC program tries to go outside for playtime as much as possible so please remember to send your child in a warm coat and have them wear shoes and socks to keep them warm when playing outside.  It may also be a good idea to start having them bring in or wear hats and mittens because morning playtime can be very brisk!

Again, I have to praise the students for the amazing job that they are doing wearing their masks!  We know that 5 hours is a long time to wear the same mask so many students are finding it helpful to have a backup mask in their backpack in case the mask that they come to school in gets wet or dirty.  It would be very helpful to the classroom teams if you child would keep a backup mask in their backpack.  A reminder to families to please make sure that they come to school every day in a clean mask and that the masks are being washed after ever wearing.  We ask the same of the towels that the students bring in daily.  Please make sure that you are sending in a fresh towel every day that your child attends school.  The students are allowed to take off their masks during quiet time which is when they use the towels so having a fresh one every school day helps prevent any extra germs from coming back into the building.  Thank you so much for your assistance with this.  It is greatly appreciated.

Next week we will be moving into our October theme of Autumn and Woods.  You can find more information by reading the October Curriculum Newsletter.  A very special tradition that occurs here at EC is that our courtyard is transformed into a fall field with pumpkins, corn stalks, and hay bales.  These will be arriving on October 16th so be prepared to hear all about the courtyard the following week!  Another reminder about Halloween costumes.  Students will be allowed to wear costumes on October 28th and 29th, but they need to be easily managed by the student and comfortable enough to wear all day at school.  Students will come to school in their costumes and as always, they will need to be school appropriate and no weapons are allowed.

VOLUNTEER(S)- The EC Program is looking for a volunteer to wash our playground towels on a weekly basis.  We have towels that we use here at EC to dry off the playground equipment in the mornings from the morning dew or evening showers.  They get dirty from the outside materials such as grass and dirt that sticks to them during the morning playground cleaning.  We have been very blessed over the years to have different families volunteer to wash the towels over the weekend.  If this is something that you can help us with, please reach out to Ms. Ollie.  Thank you in advance.

A gentle reminder to drive slowly during arrival and departure in the school parking lot.  There are numerous staff members along with families that walk to school in the parking lot and we want to ensure that everyone is safe during this time period.

PICTURE RETAKES:  Picture retakes are October 14th and 15th.

BPS101 has numerous openings for substitute paraprofessionals and teachers.  This is a great job opportunity for new college grads, stay at home family members, and even individuals who are still in college who have more than 60 hours can apply for a paraprofessional license.  Because these are substitute positions, they offer lots of flexibility so you can work when your child is at school and stay home when they stay home.  Pick the days and buildings that work for you and your family.  Please visit the HR page on the BPS Website for additional information or to apply.  BPS Human Resources Site

Fostering Innovation and Expanding Opportunities for BPS101 Students

The Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence (BFEE) annually funds tens of thousands of dollars in grants for the school district, and the organization is about 75% complete on their goal of having a million-dollar endowment. The Board of Directors for BFEE is a group of dedicated community volunteers, and they would love your help with marketing or fundraising. Marketing and fundraising are established committees for BFEE, but they would welcome anyone who is interested in helping them achieve their mission. The time commitment is minimal for committee members, and it is a great opportunity to learn more about BFEE and the ways they support innovation at BPS101.
