Early Childhood Education Screening (public event - registration required)

Thursday, Mar 1st

During the developmental and preschool years, parents often wonder whether their child’s development is typical of their same age peers. Developmental screenings are designed to address these concerns and help parents learn more about their child’s development. Batavia Public School District 101 offers free developmental screenings throughout the year to assess young children’s skills.

Each of the screenings are by appointment (call 630-937-8000),  and Proof of Residencyis required for the Early Childhood Screening prior to scheduling.  Screenings take place at Alice Gustafson Elementary School (main entrance is on west side of building). Please complete an initial intake form so that we may better understand what you are interested in for your child.

Infant and Toddler Early Intervention Screening Schedule (Birth to 32 months)
Batavia Public Schools works very closely with Day One Network, Inc. (Child & Family Connections #4 or CFC) to become aware of children who may qualify for Early Childhood’s programs. Focusing on the special needs of children who are not yet three years old, Day One Network houses the Early Intervention (EI) program that serves our district. Beginning with an initial phone call from district residents who have concerns for their children, ages birth-32 months, the program has the potential of addressing those areas of development that may concern parents.

Infant and toddler screening is available on a walk-in basis from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on screening dates and are held at Alice Gustafson Elementary School located at 905 Carlisle Road in Batavia (the main entrance is located west side).

Once children approach their third birthday, the Early Childhood staff initiates the transition process. The value of the Early Intervention program is the opportunity to determine needs, set goals, and start working to help the students at the earliest possible time.

Early Childhood Screening Schedule (33 months to age 5)
An Early Childhood screening assesses the development of children who are 33 months to five years of age in the areas of:
• Speech/Language
• Fine Motor
• Gross Motor
• Pre-Academics/Cognition
• Social-Emotional
• Self-Care

The screening takes approximately one hour to complete. After the screening, parents have the opportunity to discuss the results of the screening as well as any concerns about their child, with a member of the screening team.

If you are interested in having your child screened, bring your documents to the main entrance (west side) of Alice Gustafson Elementary School located at 905 Carlisle Road, Batavia, anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Week of the Young Child (WOYC)

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 70,000 members and a network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates.

This national celebration highlights the importance of children’s earliest years of learning and recognizes the critical role that school, family, and community partnerships play in ensuring that every child experiences the type of learning environment that promotes learning.

During the WOYC, the EC has planned several activities to celebrate the young child during school and in the evening.
